ROAD SIGNS. All road signs indicating motorways in Italy are in green. Blue is for slow roads, white for inside towns, brown for heritage sites, orange yellow for detours
MOTORWAYS. All pay motorways have an entry station where you collect a ticket and an exit station where you handle that ticket to an employee and pay the toll, cash. Avoid lanes marked in yellow and with a Telepass sign, choose lanes marked with a Contanti sign
INLAND. Be aware that many local roads inland Sicily are badly kept. Interruptions and detours are frequent. If you have to move fast, choose main roads i.e. motorways or roads marked SS (it stands for national road)
TRAFFIC. Avoid moving along the coast by car on Summer Saturdays and Sundays. If you must do that, ask us for advice
PARKING. Parking slots marked in yellow are for emergency and police. Those marked in blue are pay parkings. Those marked in white are for free parking: in bigger towns and cities, a man could be there asking you for money to look after your car while you are away. Give him one euro and you are safe.
SAFETY. Never leave anything inside your car that is visible from the outside. This is also valid for small objects and jackets.
DO I NEED A CAR? Most often, unless your accommodation is downtown Catania or in the area of Taormina. Always, if you want to visit nicest beaches, nature reserves or the mountains
